• Can i cover my existing timber fascias and soffits with uPVC?

  • SDL will never recommend this practice as it does not matter how good the condition of your exixting roofline may be it is always possible that the timber may hold some moisture and by covering or capping over with uPVC you are with holding that moisture and ultimately aiding the rotting process.

    However, we will always give the customer what he or she may desire offering the correct advice to aid them in makeing the right choices.

• How long do you guarantee your works?

  • All works (installations) are guaranteed for ten years against any faults such as gutter leaks.

    However some products have a longer guarantee on certain things such as colour fastness, which in some cases can be as much as 50 years.

    SDL also accompany their domestic guarantees with an insurance backed scheme.

• Which products do you install and by which manufacturer?

  • We only install products manufactured by the leading brands as shown on our home page.

    This shows that the customer can be confident that the products selected by SDL are of the up most quality.

    However we will always aim to meet the requirements of any one client, should this mean using a product that we would not normally consider we shall install it assuming that it is fit for its intended purpose.

• Does my roof space require ventilation?

  • SDL will always recommend that the roof space and eaves are ventilated to allow the roof to breathe, this is particularly important if the roof has some kind of living quarters.

    There are a few different options to acheive a cross ventilation in the roof, so if slots in the soffit isn\'t to your taste, why not consider hiding the vents on top of the fascias? You will get the same results but without it being visible.

• How do you gain access to the eaves level?

  • Our installers always carry regulation access equpment with them, however each property is unique and requires individual analasys of the potential risks of working at height.

    It is often the case that properties require scaffolding to be erected and although this has a cost implication SDL will always work to safe methods and do not compromise the safety of our operatives to save on cost.

• What if my rafters are badly effected by rot?

  • Once we start your installation we will carry out a full inspection of the timbers that we intend to fix to, if rot is discovered then we simply cut away the offending timber and replace the damaged section with new treated timber to allow for a secure fixing.

    Within reason this is done at no extra cost to the client, however we will always advise if a serious rotting problem is discovered and will stop works until a full survey has been carried out by a compitent building surveyor, this is a very extreme circumstance and would need to be funded by the client.
